2026 CALL FOR CODE GLOBAL CHALLENGE

The 2026 Call for Code AI Global Challenge, Call for Code AI: United Against Trafficking was a global innovation challenge that brought together developers, researchers, designers, and AI innovators from around the world to create practical solutions to help prevent, identify, and combat human trafficking. Presented in partnership with UN Human Rights and Austin AI Hub, the Challenge marked the centenary of the 1926 Slavery Convention and the United Nations World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can help address one of the world's most urgent human rights challenges.

Following a global judging process, three AI-powered solutions were recognized for their potential to strengthen prevention, improve victim identification, and help survivors pursue justice with dignity. Together, these innovations demonstrate how trusted AI can help protect vulnerable communities while supporting the people and organizations working every day to end human trafficking.

JUSTICE.

Many trafficking prosecutions depend on survivors finding the strength to testify in court—often one of the most difficult steps in recovery. Project TEND is a free, anonymous web application that helps survivors prepare emotionally and practically for court in English or Spanish, without requiring a name, email, or phone number. Accessible from any web browser, it has the potential to support survivors worldwide—helping more survivors seek justice with dignity and confidence.

PREVENTION.

Human trafficking often begins with a fraudulent job offer that promises opportunity but leads to exploitation. Sentinel AI analyzes suspicious recruitment advertisements, identifying warning signs such as fake accounts, recycled images, and deceptive claims. Designed for job platforms, NGOs, and investigators, it can help stop trafficking before it begins—protecting vulnerable people before they become victims.

IDENTIFICATION.

The first conversation with a potential trafficking survivor can determine whether they are identified, protected, or overlooked. TRACE gives frontline workers an AI assistant that transforms spoken or written notes into structured case records in five languages, even without an internet connection. By helping identify survivors faster and more consistently, it can connect more people to protection, support, and a pathway to recovery.
