ASBURY PARK SALUTES
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

The inaugural Red, White & Blue Award was presented to Bruce Springsteen by Mayor James Bruno, honoring his unwavering dedication to Asbury Park, the city he’s championed for more than three decades. “Everyone knows that Asbury Park is Bruce’s adopted town,” Mayor Bruno remarked. “Whenever we ask him to step up for the city, he hits a home run every time. On behalf of Asbury Park, we are honored to bestow this first Red, White & Blue Award on the Boss for his steadfast support of the city and its people.”

The 2004 award and concert launched a weekend of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of The Stone Pony, the famed venue where Springsteen’s career took off with the release of Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.. As part of the festivities, Clarence Clemons, Robert Randolph, and Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes delivered electrifying performances. July 4th began with a patriotic parade and a family festival outside Convention Hall, where carnival delights and local flavors brought joy to all ages. The night concluded with a stunning fireworks display over The Stone Pony, lighting up Asbury Park’s skies in a tribute to its enduring musical legacy.
